DOT driver exams:

We offer comprehensive patient care, including DOT exams for commercial driver’s licenses and physicals for drivers who do not require a CDL but need a DOT exam due to the weight they haul.

DOT drug and alcohol testing:

While a basic DOT exam does not include drug and alcohol testing, we can perform these tests alongside your regular exam if required by your company. Please note that drug and alcohol testing is a separate test and not included in the cost of the basic DOT exam.

Pain management:

Our clinic also provides chiropractic services to address repetitive strain injuries commonly seen in drivers. Along with DOT exams, we offer relief for back, neck, shoulder, hip, and leg pain.

Walk-ins and appointments:

We strive to make the process as convenient as possible. Our DOT exams do not require appointments, and walk-ins are always welcome. However, you can also schedule an appointment to ensure availability at a specific time.

MEET THE DOCTOR

Our team at Ark-La-Tex Health Center consists of certified medical examiners approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. With years of experience examining and working with drivers, they understand the importance of passing your test. During your exam, they will gladly discuss lifestyle choices and healthier habits that can safeguard your livelihood.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR DOT EXAM

A DOT exam involves a simple and hassle-free three-step process: taking your medical history, conducting the exam, and completing the necessary paperwork.

STEP ONE: MEDICAL HISTORY

You will be asked to fill out a brief one-page medical history form, providing information about your general health, past illnesses, family medical history, and overall well-being.

STEP TWO: THE EXAM

After reviewing your medical history, our team will discuss any medical conditions you may have and perform a basic urinalysis test. The exam includes the following:

  • Measurement of height
  • Weight measurement
  • Blood pressure and pulse check
  • Range of motion testing
  • Examination of eyes and ears
  • Breathing evaluation

STEP THREE: PAPERWORK

The final step involves completing the necessary paperwork to process your exam results. You will receive a copy of the exam to keep when obtaining your CDL, and another copy for your company. A scanned copy will also be kept in your file at our office. Once the paperwork is processed, you will receive your DOT medical card, which you should carry with you at all times when driving.

Note: If you require a copy of the DOT exam to be faxed to your company, please have the fax number ready.

PREPARING FOR YOUR PHYSICAL

A DOT physical at Ark-La-Tex Health Center typically takes about 30 minutes. We accept cash, major credit cards, and company checks. To prepare for your exam, gather your medical records, make a list of diagnosed medical conditions, compile a list of medications and prescribing doctors, and note any necessary medical devices.

On the day of the exam, please bring the following items, if applicable:

  • Photo identification
  • Medical records
  • List of medications (prescription and over-the-counter) with details on strength and dosage
  • Eyeglasses
  • Hearing aids
  • Copy of your most recent stress test (for heart conditions)
  • Copy of your latest sleep test result (for sleep apnea)
  • Contact information for all your doctors, including names, phone numbers, and fax numbers
  • Ensure you drink water and arrive with a full bladder, as a urine sample will be required.

TIPS ON MANAGING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

We understand that some individuals may have reservations about medical exams, which can elevate blood pressure levels. However, we work with drivers daily and acknowledge the importance of passing your DOT exam. To help prepare for your appointment, consider the following in the days and weeks leading up to your exam:

  • Take your medication as prescribed and on schedule.
  • If you forget a dose, take it as soon as possible according to your doctor’s recommendations.
  • Inform our team if you recently missed a dose, so they can recheck your blood pressure at a later time or on the following day.
  • Reduce your consumption of caffeine, nicotine, sugar, and salt.
  • Rest assured that our clinic does not have a typical clinical atmosphere.

Feel free to visit Ark-La-Tex Health Center during office hours for a walk-in DOT exam. If you have a busy schedule and want to ensure availability, please call in advance to book an appointment for a DOT physical, drug and alcohol testing, or a regular adjustment.
